Workshop on the study of Hepatitis C virus infection. Organized by CNB researcher Pablo Gastaminza, on 13 April 2012 we are hosting a workshop on the study of hepatitis C virus infection at the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología.
ATP hydrolysis drives microcantilever bending. The collaboration between José L. Carrascosa a and Javier Tamayo at the Instituto de Microelectrónica de Madrid has given rise to a novel measurement of real time conformational changes of viral ATPases. The researchers showed that the nanomechanical response of its device was dependent on the monolayer arrangement of ATPases at the cantilever surface.
XIX CNB Scientific Workshop. On December 19th and 20th, we will host our XIX Scientific Workshop, an excellent opportunity for an update in the Life Sciences research carried out at the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología.
A recombinant Vaccinia Virus as a universal vaccine against Influenza Virus. As a proof-of-concept, Mariano Esteban's group have designed a novel influenza virus immunogen containing the conserved regions of influenza virus neuraminidase and hemagglutinin. Upon challenge with influenza virus, the vaccinated mice exhibited decreased viral load and a delay in mortality. These findings suggest that it is a valid approach to protect against influenza virus infection.

Meet our Scientists
DOWN REGULATION OF CHEMOKINE RECEPTOR SIGNALLING Chemokines are chemotactic cytokines that act through plasma membrane-tethered receptors. They are involved in cell functions including regulation of immune defence as well as in tumour growth, atherosclerosis and asthma. Migration of immune cells from blood into tissues is crucial in immune surveillance and host defence. Our group uses cell biology and knockout animal models to study the chemokine response of monocytic cells. |
