Scientific Culture Unit
CNB
At the CNB we believe in the importance of science being part of society and, in the same way, of society feeling part of science. As a CSIC centre, promoting scientific culture in society is part of our institutional mission. That is why we strive to maintain active channels of communication with society.
The objectives of the CNB’s Scientific Culture Unit (UCC) are as follows:
- To make society aware of the research carried out at our centre.
- Promote scientific vocations in the youth.
- Facilitate access to scientific knowledge for all sectors of the population.
- To promote the exchange of ideas and knowledge in science.
The UCC carries out the following activities
Outreach & Public Engagement Events

Networks and Collaborations
From 2022 we are part of the FECYT network of Scientific Culture Units.
Since 2019 we organise joint public engagement events such as the European Researchers Night with other CSIC research institutes located at the UAM campus.
The CNB also collaborates closely with the CSIC’s Science in the Neighbourhood project, which brings science to neighbourhoods in Madrid, Seville and Barcelona that had little cultural offer of this kind. Throughout the academic year, several participating schools visit the CNB, and CNB’s scientific staff carry out different outreach activities at the requesting schools.
