Ciencia y responsabilidad frente a la COVID-19

  • El proyecto Ciencia y responsabilidad frente a la COVID impulsado por Susanna Manrubia pretende acercar las áreas de investigación del CNB al público general, haciendo énfasis en el público juvenil.

En el último año el CNB se ha convertido en un centro de referencia por sus investigaciones frente a la COVID-19 desde diferentes perspectivas, que incluyen desde el desarrollo de candidatos vacunales, antivirales y métodos de diagnóstico a modelos matemáticos que ayuden a entender la evolución de la pandemia. Aunque todos ellos son temas complejos, a través del proyecto “Ciencia y Responsabilidad frente a la COVID-19” impulsado por la investigadora y vicedirectora del centro Susanna Manrubia gracias a la convocatoria de divulgación científica “Cuenta la Ciencia” de la Fundación General del CSIC (FGCSIC), hemos querido simplificar y compartir con la sociedad algunas de las investigaciones que se llevan a cabo en el CNB.

¿Cómo se trabaja con algo que no se ve? ¿En qué consiste la investigación científica? ¿Qué están investigando en el Centro Nacional de Biotecnología? En la pasada edición de la Semana de la Ciencia realizamos charlas divulgativa para dar respuesta a estas preguntas. A partir de ellas, se han elaborado 6 comics que reflejan el trabajo de investigación del CNB-CSIC. Este  material gráfico está a disposición la comunidad educativa mediante su descarga desde esta página web. Susanna Manrubia, directora del proyecto, destaca la “importancia de visibilizar el trabajo de investigación de los científicos para incrementar la confianza de la población en la ciencia, puesto que la sociedad debe sentirse parte del proceso y de los avances realizados en beneficio común”. En el momento actual, la ciudadanía es también parte de la solución, pero solo si se conocen de manera veraz tanto los avances como las incógnitas pendientes de resolver será posible evaluar críticamente la propia actitud y el valor de los hábitos responsables.

Este nuevo material gráfico que publicamos aquí, servirá como base para explicar cómo se trabaja desde diferentes ámbitos para dar respuestas a la pandemia. Abarca desde el trabajo con nuevos patógenos hasta la búsqueda y desarrollo de soluciones terapéuticas como vacunas o antivirales, pero también la predicción de la evolución de la pandemia, mediada por la puesta en común de los datos disponible y la realización de modelos de predicción. Todas las ilustraciones han sido creadas por Jesús Sánchez Ruiz (Laboratoons), y están disponibles  para su descarga gratuita en alta calidad.

 




Además, estos cómics han servido de base para la realización de una exposición física en el hall del Centro Nacional de Biotecnología (CNB- CSIC) que se completa con imágenes que repasan diferentes pandemias y su percepción en la población a lo largo de la historia, incluyendo ejemplos de las recomendaciones de protección y concienciación en diferentes momentos históricos.
