A fully funded doctoral position in the area of Structural Biology is available at the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología (CNB-CSIC), Madrid, Spain (in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Madrid, where the degree will be registered). The position is part of the European Maria Sklodowska Doctoral Network AUREUS (https://www.aureus-horizon.eu): Wall teichoic acids as immunogenic and conserved alternative targets for therapies versus Staphylococcus aureus. Contract length: 3 years
Subject: Structural biology of teichoic acid binding proteins.
Training: Expertise in protein structure prediction, expression and purification; molecular modelling; structure resolution by X-ray crystallography.
Research: Co-crystallization of WTA-biosynthesis enzymes and inhibitors; structural studies of PRR-WTA complexes; structural studies of Fab-WTA complexes.
Requirements:
Applicants should hold an undergraduate degree in (bio)chemistry or a related discipline; and a master’s degree in a subject related to structural biology, biophysics and/or protein chemistry. Ability to work independently and efficiently as part of a team. Well organized with attention to detail and excellent record keeping. Strong communication skills and fluency in written and spoken English. Enthusiasm, motivation, and capability to learn new methods. Problem-solving skills. Ability to work in an international collaborative research setting.
Applicants must be doctoral candidates, i.e., not already in possession of a doctoral degree at the date of recruitment.
Researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their recruitment date. If you don’t fulfil this condition, please consider applying to one of the other open positions in the network AUREUS.
Desired skills:
