Herramientas Protéicas

The Protein Tools Unit of the CNB focuses on production and characterization of custom monoclonal antibodies (mAb), immune response studies, design and development of immunoassays, protein labelling and molecular interaction analysis. The Unit is a founder member of the EuroMAbNet, the first non-profit European organization of multidisciplinary academic laboratories specialized in mAb.

Research tools and services are provided to scientists from the CNB, other CSIC institutes, universities, public research organizations and private companies. The laboratory offers expertise, technical assistance, advice with data analysis and interpretation, user training and introduction of new methods. The core facility also organizes theoretical and practical courses and assists with preparation of manuscripts and oral presentations.

The facility is equipped with a surface plasmon resonance biosensor (Biacore 3000), which allows sensitive and reliable characterization of biomolecular interactions, and provides information on the kinetics and thermodynamic parameters of the binding events. The biosensor can be used for applications involving, e. g., protein-protein, antibody-antigen, dsRNA-protein, lipid-protein or small molecule-protein interaction.

The service also participates in R&D projects focused on the generation and/or functional characterization of antibodies with different objectives, such as virus neutralization, cancer immunotherapy and nanoparticle targeting.
