CNB WOMEN REPORT
CNB Women Report analyses the state of the CNB in terms of gender/sex, in order to detect any possible inequality in this respect and to be able to adopt measures aimed at improving this situation as described in the CNB’s Equality Plan.
The total percentage of women working at the CNB is 53% (civil servant, permanent and temporary staff). In management, 55% of the staff are women, however, the percentage of women in the scientific staff of the CNB is 37%. A comparative analysis allows us to conclude that the ‘scissors’ graph of the evolution of the scientific careers of women and men at the CNB is significantly different from that of the CSIC. The data for CSIC staff were obtained from the 2020 ‘Women Researchers Report’ produced by the CSIC Commission for Women and Science. This difference is worrying, as the percentage of women at all stages of the scientific career is lower at the CNB, and becomes more evident as one advances in the scientific career. The glass ceiling at the CNB is 1.89, much higher than the 1.35 at the CSIC. This situation is evidence of the existing gender inequality in our centre, which, if not remedied, will seriously jeopardise the achievement of gender equality in the CNB.
This report also presents data broken down by department.
The CNB must continue to promote measures that guarantee equal opportunities and contribute to the inclusion and permanence of women in scientific careers. Some of these measures are described in the CNB’s Equality Plan.
(Note: The data presented in this report correspond to CNB staff as of 1 November 2020).
