The CNB will host Biotechnology of Global I + T 2016

The event will take place simultaneously on 23 November at 12 venues to activate the ecosystems of innovation and entrepreneurship in Spain. The 4th Edition of Global I + T will be inaugurated by the journalist Iñaki Gabilondo. Daniel Isenberg will be among the primary speakers of the day. At the CNB-CSIC, participating speakers will include as Ion Arocena (director of ASEBIO) and Enrique Castellón (CRB Inverbio), to promote synergies among the various stakeholders in the biotechnology sector.


Invitación Global ImasT CNB 2 Página 1For the second consecutive year, the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología of the CSIC (CNB-CSIC) will host the thematic conference on biotechnology in the fourth edition of the Global I+T. This national event will be held simultaneously on 23 November at 12 venues to showcase the research carried out in Spain.

Throughout the day, presentations and roundtables at the CNB-CSIC will set forth the possibilities of biotechnology as an innovative tool to solve some of society’s most pressing problems. Representatives of the public sector and scientists will sit side-by-side with investors, entrepreneurs, and science and innovation support foundations to seek new strategies to promote technology transfer, innovation and entrepreneurial culture in the biotechnology sector.

Global I + T is the most important entrepreneurship and innovation event celebrated between universities, companies, investors and public administrations in Spain, with the purpose of boosting the ecosystem of innovation. Since 2013, more than 150 projects have been presented to investors in the Global I + T framework; more than 200 speakers have taken part and more than 3,000 people have participated in these sessions, in person or virtually.

In this fourth edition, internationally renowned experts and 10,000 scientists from more than 10 universities and research centers associated with Global I + T will offer their knowledge and experience to entrepreneurs, companies, institutions and investors, to improve and maximize competitiveness, social impact and returns on investment, as well as emphasising the value of Spanish research.

This year, Global I + T will develop around two plenary sessions and 22 thematic conferences. The event will be broadcast in full and all debates at the various venues can be accessed through the Global I + T website. In addition, lectures at the hosting sites can be attended free of charge with a single click.

Invitación Global ImasT CNB 2 Página 2Opening the event will be Raúl Mata, founder of the eGauss Business Holding IT group, and Daniel Isenberg, Professor at Babson College and creator of the BEEP-Babson Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Project. Journalist Iñaki Gabilondo will deliver the inaugural presentation. The two plenary sessions will include Josep M. Piqué, president of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP), Senén Barro, president of RedEmprendia, Emma Fernández, managing partner at Kleinrock Advisors and former senior executive vice-president of Indra, Marta Villanueva, Director General of the Spanish Association for Quality (AEC), Rodrigo Recondo, President of the Institute of Venture Capital (INCARI) and Javier García Martínez, recipient of the MIT Technology Review award to researchers under the age of 35.

The thematic sessions at the CNB-CSIC will be inaugurated by Mario Mellado (Vice-director of the CNB-CSIC) and Ana Sanz (Technology Transfer Officer at the CNB-CSIC). This will be followed by a round table during which Javier Etxabe Oria (Adjunct Vice-president for Knowledge Transfer; CSIC), Juan J. Gómez (COTEC), Daniel López (CNB-CSIC scientist) and Peter Klatt (Technical Vice-director of the CNB-CSIC) will discuss how collaboration between the research community, public institutions and the private sector can boost Spain’s innovative ecosystem.

The second round table to be held during the day at the CNB-CSIC will focus on support for entrepreneurship in biotechnology. Ion Arocena (ASEBIO), Enrique Castellón (CRB Inverbio) and Jaime Del Barrio (Ernst & Young) will sit alongside Antonio Leyva and Antonio Bernad (both CNB-CSIC scientists) to explore the possibilities of financing for biotechnology companies.
