The Centro Nacional de Biotecnología of the CSIC (CNB-CSIC) participates in the INPhINIT programme promoted by the Obra Social "la Caixa", which seeks to bring outstanding young international researchers to the most outstanding research laboratories in Spain.
As part of the programme, candidates can opt for one of 36 places to carry out work toward the doctoral thesis in a CNB-CSIC laboratory. Projects offered cover diverse fields of biotechnology research, including biomedicine, environmental biotechnology, plant biotechnology, microbiology, synthetic biology and bioinformatics. Information on each of the 36 places can be found on the INPhINIT Programme Website
Applications can be made until 2 February 2017 through the programme page.
The students selected will join the laboratory in one of the CNB-CSIC departments (Molecular and Cellular Biology, Microbial Biotechnology, Plant Molecular Genetics, Immunology and Oncology, and Systems Biology) with a three-year contract in a stimulating environment for research training.
The CNB-CSIC, a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence in Life Sciences, is one of the leading research centres Spain, where approximately 150 doctoral students are trained annually. In addition to high quality specific research training, the CNB-CSIC has many activities for the development of the complementary skills needed for a successful scientific career. Its location on the campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the institution’s close links as part of the UAM-CSIC Campus of International Excellence promotes the participation of CNB-CSIC PhD candidates in a stimulating academic atmosphere and an optimal academic environment for the development of a successful career.

About the INPhINIT programme
INPhINIT is a new doctoral fellowship programme designed to incorporate young international researchers in the fields of technology, engineering, physics, mathematics, and health and life sciences into the best Spanish research centres. Sponsored by the Obra Social "la Caixa", INPhINIT aims to support the best scientific talent and to foster high quality research and innovation in Spain by recruiting outstanding international students, who are offered an attractive, competitive environment in which to conduct excellent research.
In each call, INPhINIT selects 57 young researchers of all nationalities, who are offered a three-year employment contract for the completion of the doctoral degree in centres accredited with the Severo Ochoa or Maria de Maeztu distinctions, as well as the Carlos III Health Research Institutes. In addition, the researchers establish a career development plan that includes opportunities for trans-national, intersectoral and interdisciplinary mobility, as well as a further training programme.
INPhINIT has the support of the European Commission through the COFUND co-financing mechanism of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions in the Horizon 2020 Programme to recruit more researchers and achieve broader impact, and to promote training for excellence in research.
