The Microbial Biosafety Service, located in the Department of Microbial Biotechnology of the CNB, provides support for experimentation with bacterial pathogens classified in the P2 bio-safety level. The Service has all the necessary equipment for growing these pathogens, including:

• 2 bio-safety cabins
• 1 CO2 incubator
• 2 air incubators for growing microbial cultures
• 1 stove
• 1 inverted miscroscope
• 1 spectrophotometer
• 1 autoclave
• 1 sonicator 
• other bench equipment as centrifuges and heaters
  

The Service provides support in all techniques related to handling of P2-level pathogens and in methodologies related to the pathogen-host eukaryotic cell interaction.

All the experimentation to be performed in the Service has to be previously evaluated and approved by the Bio-safety Committee of the CNB.
